Web Journal:
JUNE 2, 2002: DSVP coming down the home stretch as far as documents and stuff... At this rate, we may just make the August deadline. I've been playing with Photoshop a little more in my spare time. I've been hanging with some of my friends that I see less often. Jon S. (Jonas), Kimboo (Boo), Jenny, and I may even see Arron G. here soon. Pretty cool stuff. Life's been rather good lately. Not for any particular reason. Mysti and I are great... Not to much else happening. Doing some work on my truck. Trying to get it on the road and get my motorcycle licensed so I can go dirt biking. Other than that... May 15, 2002: Lately I've been calling the competition in Utah for DSVP. I even purchases DSVP.net. (Try it. Right now it just points right back here.) I haven't done much with this BSD server either. I check up on it weekly. See how many morons have bounced packets off closed ports and gotten banned. (That's right, kids... Don't try to connect to a service or port scan me please. You'll get dumped into a routing black hole.) I've been playing with Bryce 5 lately. I'll post some of my stuff on here some time, but it's not very good. Oh... And Balthazar's back up. My main system is running again, but it's short 4 hard drives. IBM still hasn't gotten them back to me. As of yesterday, they were somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. Hopefully I'll have my RAID back up next week. My brother gave me a 20GB drive for payment in helping him build several systems. I used that to get myself back up. It's not as fast as a RAID, but at least I can use my computer. Now I'll have a full 48 GB of non-RAIDed space for backups and such. (In addition to my 120 GB of RAID space.) I'm also pondering taking one of the IBM drives and making it non-RAIDed. That'll give me more room to back stuff up. But I think it'd be better if I just start using my burner more. (Stupid 4X non-overburn POS.) I need to get one of those 40X drives. Lovely. Very nice... I've also got this dual head Radeon VE in now. It's a good card. Does alright with games. It's close to the same performance I was seeing with my GeForce II MX. But it does dual head and S-Video out as well. That makes me very happy. If I ever get a nice TV, I could hook it up as a 3rd head on that card. (4 monitors... yummy.) For those of you who haven't experienced the Multi-Head sensation, you should really try it. Just go buy yourself a decent PCI Video card and slap it in. It works ok with Windows 98, a little better with ME, and really well with 2000 and XP. Anyway... Peace. April 18, 2002: The server's still down. Power's back up, but DSL line is down. As of now, none of this has been posted, which kinda sucks. Getting my drives RMA'ed today, unless something unexpected happens. Hopefully I'll have them shipped tomorrow. I have a Dual Head AGP card and a PCI Vid Card. In theory, I can do tri-head now. I even have enough monitors. I can't wait to give it a try. DSVP is moving forward again. Hopefully with a new-found momentum. Time will tell. Jon and I got 2 new suits. There was a two for one deal at a few shops and so we picked them up for 133$ each. Not bad. Not bad at all. They're not pure wool, but for the price... Anyway... That's about all that's happening today. Update: Had all my IBM hard drives ready to go... I called to confirm the numbers and make sure they would accept them as sent. Turns out if they see bubble rap, they void your warranty. Ok. Nevermind. I guess I'll ship them tomorrow. After I've bought some proper shipping materials! THE DRIVES ARE FRIED ANYWAY! GRR! Don't every buy IBM Hard Drives, kids. April 17, 2002: What else... Hmm... The Morgan site is going badly. Nobody knows what they want. Everybody is a web developer expert and wants to see their 'vision' put to use. It's a nightmare. I'm still working on it... I haven't given up yet. But they'd better pay. Update: Nevermind. I'm finished with Morgan. They're method of managing projects is to outlandish for my liking and at this point I'll just be satisfied with getting paid. Good luck to TaoLung, who is staying on to see it through. You'll need all the luck you can manage. TaoLung and I are going suit shopping tonight. (With the wives of course. We have no fashion sense.) There's a lot of 2 for 1 sales going on right now so we figured we'd take advantage. <rant>Almost got taken out by a large white truck this morning. There's a 4 way stop by our place and at least once every few days, someone goes flying through it in front of us. I'd love to sit on the corner in a lawn chair with a pistol and just shoot out tires when people run the stop signs.</rant> Oh... And as stated on the main page, I've overhauled the site. Again. I had an epiphany at 3:00 in the morning a week back. (That's when I get all my best ideas... he he he.) So I made some notes and went to bed. A week later, look at this beautiful new... somewhat darker site. It has a neat animation, and preached button's. I like it. April 15, 2002: Anyhoo... Not much happening. Aaron unplugged NetworkError.org on me for part of Monday. Other than that... April 10, 2002: And as stated on the main page, it has not been a good few weeks for computers. Thaumatergist's router machine's Hard Drive died. Glemtar's computer is all messed up. Flame Kitten's was blue screening quite often. (Driver issue.) And Sharon's modem appears to be fried. How's your computer(s), kids? So I'm stuck on Flame Kitten's box till I can get new Hard Drives. It's not to bad. I miss the dual-head. And I really miss the killer performance. But other than the I/O throughput, it's not to bad at all. Work continues on the Morgan site. You can check it out in my dev zone. It has some NetScape issues right now, but hey... Nobody likes NS anyway... (Kidding.) I think we're coming down the home stretch on it. Flame Kitten and I are heading south to Nevada this weekend for her family reunion. WOO HOO! ROAD TRIP! Proof that it's not the destination, but the journey. I'm looking forward to getting out of town. Especially since I just detailed my car. Makes all the difference. Now I just need to get some more music dumped on my *Empeg and we be ready to go. Now I just need to get my base channel fixed on my Infinity Kappa 255a amplifier fixed. (5 Channel amp.) My poor subwoofer is feeling so neglected. Anyway... (update... Morgan site now works under NS.) Other than the Armageddon of computers, not much happening right now. (Except the morgan site. That consumes most of my time.) For great justice... *Empeg - Car stereo that runs Linux on a strong arm processor. 2x 20 GB laptop hard drives for music. Front vacuum display w/buttons. Remote control. Serial, USB, and Ethernet ports. Plays MP3, WAV, and WMA files. April 2, 2002: Earlier, I tried to get a mail server running on NetworkError.org, but it's not working right. i.e. It doesn't do anything. I've been through the config file a few times but I think it'll be a while before I can get this one figured out. This is my first mail server so I get to figure all this stuff out the fun way. (Read. Edit. kill -s 1 PID. Test. Repeat.) I also need to make sure I don't have any of it's ports blocked off with my intrusion detection system. But I'm to lazy to do that right now. It's just bugging me because it's the last big thing I need to get running on this server to make it complete. All well... It seems I'm plagued with tiny, annoying, technical problems. My web-cam software jams the web-cam drivers about every hour or so. To fix it I have to reboot. Thing number... 7 (I think) on my list of stupid things I need to fix. April 1, 2002: I also need to fix my Master Boot Record. Poor Balthazar got smacked hard when I was playing with it. (Accidentally wiped out my primary master. Good thing I keep backups, eh?) Right now I have it rigged up to boot win2000 off a floppy. (i.e. floppy = MBR), but that's getting old. I also need to get my DXR3 Card working. (DVD-Decoder.) Right now it just locks my computer when I try to use it. I think my second video card doesn't agree with it well. And MSTasks.exe crashes on boot-up every once in a while. That's pretty annoying. I guess I should have expected this though, I'm still ironing out the kinks in this Win2k install. (Reinstalled a few weeks ago.) This is going much faster than last time. I can't wait to get my GForce II MX back and try out that overclocking hack from Jason. I might be able to squeeze a third video card in to, though I kind of doubt it considering my second and third cards are from the mid 90's. They don't play well together. Right now I'm waiting for the last of NetworkError.org's web content to finish uploading. The Wedding pictures are freaking huge. I'll need to make thumbnails for them soon. I'm really happy with how this site is turning out. Only a few days old and already looking so much better than version 1. I also need to pull some of the popular tech articles over from version 1, update them, and repost them here. Ah... It's nice having a functional web page again. I really hope this site gets more love than the old NetworkError.org. It's already proving much easier to maintain. Now I just need to get broadband. >:) But then I'd never find a job... |
