«It's All About Me»
So you wish to know more about me... So much to tell. Where to begin. I was born on October 22nd of 1869. Only it wasn't called October then. We called it Helluvakiteober. I grew up on a server farm with my older brother, Farhenshufer. (He looked sorta German to us... We just call him Dan now.) Back in my day, I was quite the looker. I could attract ladies from 3 counties over. (Though at the time, we called ladies "hoochies".) I have many fond memories working the server farm. Splitting the cases open with a loud "thunk" of my machete and harvesting the hard drives. Sometimes I'd find a toad in the server... I'd always lick the toads. They were my friends. I like toads. One day, President Iesenhoward came to our farm demanding that we give him four hog's heads of hard drives. Except he got all tongue twisted during his demand. My father used the momentary opportunity to hurl a block of cheese at him. Back in my day, cheese was much heavier and harder than it is today... Iesenhoward ran away with is tail between his legs. (We had tails, back in my day. But dogs and toads didn't.) Then we all sat down and had some hard drive pie. Mmmm... Pie.
Ok. For real now. he he he... My name is Tom. I go by <NetworkError> Since high school, I've worked Tech Support and Quality Assurance. (For those not versed in the lingo, that's software testing.) For a while I was even a product validation engineer working from home. (That rocked. Stupid economy ruining all my fun.) Since then I've been pretty much unemployed. But it's not all bad. I've had time to get some Unix skills. (And to put up this web site.) My wife has been very supportive. I've also been working on starting a company with Jon. (TaoLung.) I put this page up originally in 2001 for two reasons. First, I needed a place on the web to call my own. And I wanted to make it look professional. (Though the later of that wasn't accomplished until the completion of version 3.0 of NetworkError.org.) Second, I'm tired of newbies getting crap for not knowing things. The quest for knowledge is a noble one and those who shout RTFM at the drop of a hat really bug me. (That's "Read The F***ing Manual".) So NetworkError.org also exists as a resource for those seeking knowledge. Though I can't always keep my technical articles up to date, I am always available to answer questions, point people in the right direction, and basically help the newbie get a leg up in the world. (Though some effort on their part is usually expected.) Anyway. That's me. That's NetworkError.org. Welcome and well met.
