| Why track assets in a GIS?
About 85% of all information used in government has a geographic
component. Sometimes the only way to really understand the patterns
of the urban environment is to use the geographic part (like an address)
and put it on a map where it can be analyzed and compared with other
features. GIS is the tool for doing this, and has been proven to save
money and time.
- Reduce Tort Liability- Having records of maintenance
histories, repairs, who performed the work and when work was performed
are invaluable in legal matters.
- Reduce Insurance Costs- Most insurance companies will reduce
premiums if you have accurate records of your assets, and scheduled
maintenance programs.
- Help Project Future Budget Needs- By tracking past
maintenance and repair costs you can more accurately project future
budget needs.
- Road Management- Keep a current inventory of roads by type,
condition, and lane miles for better snow-plow routing, road surface
management, accident reporting.
- Inventory and Maintenance- Keep track of all sign locations,
specifications, federal standards, and maintenance history to better
prepare for replacement, repairing, and routing crews more
effectively.

Morgan Engineering offers a range of services to aid City and County
officials in managing and maintaining their assets. Assets might include
signs, pavement, striping, street lights, water utilities and many other
things.
There are four basic steps to creating a GIS system. Click
here to see an overview of our services.
Remember that we deal with our clients on a customized basis. You
get exactly what you need. This might be anything from just one
layer of information added to your current GIS, or the entire package: GPS
locations, ArcView licenses, custom MS Access databases, and personal
training. |

Using GPS technology, we find exact coordinates
of any object, like this road sign, to be added to the ArcView map.
Information about the sign could also be added to a database, like
size, reflectivity, height, etc. |
